Suspension and Steering Repair jobs we do
Shocks and struts
Shock absorbers control how the car settles after a bump, and worn ones make it bounce, dip under braking and wear tyres unevenly. Oil on the outside of a shock, or a car that keeps moving after a speed bump, are the usual signs.
Air suspension
Air struts leak as their rubber bags crack with heat and age, and the compressor wears out early from running to make up for the leak. One corner sitting low after the car is parked, or a suspension warning on the dashboard, points to it.
Arms, bushes, ball joints and axles
These parts hold the wheels in place, and the rubber bushes crack with heat and age, which gives knocks over bumps and vague steering. A clicking noise on full lock usually means a worn drive shaft joint, often after its rubber boot has split.
Steering, power steering and rims
We repair steering racks, tie rod ends and power steering leaks, and repair or replace rims bent by a pothole or a kerb. Heavy steering, a whine when you turn, a knock through the wheel or a tyre losing air at the rim all belong here.
Suspension and Steering Repair questions
How much does it cost to fix car suspension?
It depends on the car and which parts are worn, and air suspension costs more to repair than steel springs. Genuine and OEM parts differ in price as well, and you choose. We inspect the car, send the quote on WhatsApp and start only after you approve it.
Is it safe to drive with worn suspension?
Short, gentle trips are usually fine, but worn shocks make the car take longer to stop, lean more in corners and wear tyres faster. A broken spring, a loud knock from a ball joint or a corner sitting on its bump stop should be fixed before you drive far. If you are not sure, WhatsApp us a video of the noise.
Why is my car sitting low on one side?
On a car with air suspension it usually means an air strut or a pipe is leaking, so that corner drops when the car is parked overnight. On steel springs, a broken coil spring does the same and often makes a clunk over bumps. Both need fixing before you drive far, because the tyre can rub and the car handles differently.
Why is my steering heavy or whining?
On cars with hydraulic steering, a whine when you turn usually means the fluid is low from a leak or the pump is wearing. Heavy steering can also come from a failing electric steering motor, low tyre pressure or a seized joint. We check the fluid, look for leaks and read the steering module before we quote.
Can a bent rim be repaired?
A rim bent by a pothole can usually be straightened, as long as the metal has not cracked. A cracked rim can fail under load, so in most cases we advise replacing it. We check the rim on the balancing machine and tell you on WhatsApp which applies.
