The 5.3 and 6.2 V8s use lifters that switch cylinders off to save fuel, and they fail early on old oil, so change it every 5,000 to 7,500 km in Dubai. On a Denali, a bouncy ride over speed humps usually means a leaking adaptive damper.

Sierra (Denali and AT4)
A Service 4WD message after sand driving usually points to the transfer case shift motor or its plug. A hum from the front that rises with speed is often a worn wheel bearing.

Acadia
A seven-seat crossover built on a car platform. Sway bar links and front strut mounts start to knock over speed humps as they wear.

Terrain
The 1.5 and 2.0 turbo engines need dexos-approved synthetic oil, changed on time, to protect the turbocharger in summer traffic.

The rear leaf spring shackles and bushes wear on Canyons that carry loads or go off-road. The sign is a clunk from the back over speed humps.

Service 4WD warning on Yukon and Sierra
Dust and water get into the transfer case shift motor and its plug after desert driving. The truck then stays in 2WD or shows the warning. We test the motor and the wiring before we replace anything.

Ticking from the engine on cold starts
Exhaust manifold bolts on the 5.3 and 6.2 V8 snap with heat, and the manifold leaks until the metal warms up. The tick fades as the engine gets hot. We drill out the broken bolts and fit new ones with a new gasket.

Hum from the front wheels at speed
A hum that gets louder with speed, and changes when you steer, is usually a worn front hub bearing. Trucks that go into the sand wear them sooner.

Hard or late shifts in the 10-speed gearbox
Newer Yukons and Sierras use a 10-speed automatic that can shift hard or late, mostly in the lower gears. A fluid check and a shift relearn with our diagnostic tool often fixes it.

Rattle on cold start from the Acadia's 3.6 V6
First-generation Acadias can stretch their timing chains. The signs are a short rattle when you start the engine cold and a check engine light with code P0008 or P0017. Have it checked early, because a stretched chain wears the guides and can jump a tooth.

How much is a GMC Yukon service at Gomaa Garage?
It depends on the engine and what is due. An oil service on the 5.3 or 6.2 V8 takes about 8 litres of dexos-approved synthetic oil and a new filter. Send us the model year and mileage on WhatsApp and we will reply with the price.
My Yukon or Sierra says Service 4WD. Can I still drive it?
Yes, on the road in 2WD. Keep it out of the sand until it is fixed, because it may not shift into 4WD when you need it. Most cases are the transfer case shift motor or its wiring, and we test both before we quote.
