Cooling System and Radiator Repair jobs we do
Radiator repair and replacement
The radiator passes engine heat to the air flowing through it, and its plastic end tanks crack with age and heat. A leaking hose or clip can often be fixed on its own, but a cracked tank or a blocked core usually means a new radiator.
Water pump and thermostat
The water pump moves coolant around the engine and the thermostat decides when it flows through the radiator. A leaking or noisy pump, or a thermostat stuck closed, makes the engine overheat, and on many BMWs the pump is electric and can stop with little warning.
Coolant flush
A flush drains the old coolant, rinses the system and refills it with the coolant type your manufacturer specifies, then bleeds out any trapped air. It is due at the interval in your service book, or sooner if the coolant looks rusty or murky.
Hoses, cooling fan and leak repair
Rubber hoses harden and split in Dubai heat, and a dead electric fan leaves the engine with no airflow when the car is stopped. We pressure-test the system to find the leak, and if the car only overheats in traffic, the fan is the first thing we check.
Cooling System and Radiator Repair questions
Why is my car overheating?
The usual causes are low coolant from a leak, a failed cooling fan, a thermostat stuck closed or a water pump that has stopped working. A radiator blocked with dirt, inside or out, can also do it, especially in summer traffic with the AC on. Less often it is a head gasket, which is why we pressure-test the system before we quote.
Can I drive the car if it is overheating?
No. Pull over as soon as it is safe and switch the engine off, because driving on with the gauge in the red can warp the cylinder head or blow the head gasket. Do not open the radiator or coolant cap while the engine is hot, as the coolant is under pressure and can spray out.
How much does radiator repair cost?
It depends on the car and on what has failed, since a hose or clip costs far less than a new radiator. Labour varies too, because on some cars the front bumper has to come off to reach the radiator. Send us the make and model on WhatsApp and we will quote with genuine or OEM parts, as you prefer, before any work starts.
Can I top up the coolant with water?
Only to get you to a garage. Coolant raises the boiling point and stops corrosion inside the engine, while plain water boils sooner and lets rust build up. Have the system drained and refilled with the right coolant soon after.
How often should the coolant be changed?
Follow the interval in your service book, because it varies a lot between makes and coolant types. Many modern long-life coolants last several years, while older types need changing more often. If the coolant looks rusty or murky, change it sooner whatever the book says.
