Exhaust Repair and Replacement jobs we do
Exhaust leaks and blowing joints
A blown gasket, a cracked manifold or a split flexi pipe lets gas out before the silencers, which gives a ticking or puffing noise that is loudest from cold. We find the leak with the engine running and replace the gasket, joint or section at fault.
Silencers and pipes
Silencers and pipes rust from the inside, especially on cars that mostly do short trips, and a hole in either makes the car louder. We replace the section that has failed and keep the parts that are still sound.
Catalytic converters
The converter cleans the exhaust gas, and the car needs a working one to pass the emissions part of the RTA test. We confirm the fault from the oxygen sensor readings before replacing it, and you choose a genuine or OEM converter.
Hangers, mounts and heat shields
Rubber hangers perish in the heat and let the exhaust sag, knock or pull on its joints. A loose heat shield is the most common rattle under a car, and it is usually a small fix.
Exhaust Repair and Replacement questions
Why has my exhaust suddenly got louder?
Usually a hole has opened in a silencer or a pipe, a flexi pipe near the engine has cracked, or a gasket at one of the joints has blown. A broken hanger can also let the system drop and pull a joint apart. Most of these are fixed by repairing the joint or replacing the one section that has failed.
Can you replace one part instead of the whole exhaust?
Yes, in most cases. Many exhausts are built in sections joined by clamps or flanges, and where a section is welded in, the damaged part can usually be cut out and replaced. If rust has spread along the whole system, we tell you on WhatsApp before quoting for more.
How much does exhaust repair cost?
It depends on the car and on which part has failed, since a gasket or a hanger costs far less than a silencer or a catalytic converter. Genuine and OEM parts differ in price, and you choose. We send the quote on WhatsApp with parts and labour listed separately, and we call before any extra work if seized bolts or a second fault turn up.
Is it safe to drive with an exhaust leak?
A leak near the engine can let fumes, including carbon monoxide, into the cabin, especially when you are stopped in traffic with the windows closed. If you can smell exhaust inside the car, open the windows and have it checked soon. A leak further back is less urgent, but it usually grows, and a loose section can drop and drag on the road.
How do I know if my catalytic converter has failed?
A check engine light with a catalyst efficiency code, a rattle from inside the converter, a rotten egg smell or a car that feels short of power can all point to it. A converter usually fails because of something else, such as a misfire or an engine burning oil, so we find that cause first, or the new converter will fail the same way.
